Jack of all trades?
Posted by eric on Sunday, 03-Jan-2010 at 00:20:44
I'm sure these are nice, but I have a hard time justifying spending 2500 on something like this. I realize they are quality built and all but they don't match up the quality built, homemade, permanent shacks of this size and they don't match the portability of my Fish Trap. Just because you can tow it around the lake means nothing, Ihave plenty of friends with 500 sq. ft shacks that can be towed around a lake and this thing is nowhere near the comfort level there on. My Dave Genz' Fish Trap is the ultimate in portability and can be towed, carries all my equipment inside of it, sets up in seconds and fits in the bed of my truck. This thing is nowhere near the level of portability that I can acheive. So, it seems like it doesn't fit well in either world. It seems lost, is it a portable shack or a permanent shack? It seems like an attempt at a jack of all trades shack and we all know that a jack of all trades is a master of none. I have a very nice permanent shack I built myself for under five hundred dollars, it is 200 sq. ft, insulated, has vinyl siding and a rubber roof, a real door with door handle and dead bolt, carpet, an eight foot ceiling with overhead storage and a towbar attachment for pulling behind a snowmobile. It weighs just over 600lbs and loads very easily on my snowmobile trailer. I have fished in it for 4 years now and it has held up just fine. I also own a dave genz fish trap for traveling and nothing compares to it for portability. I can haul all my equipment right inside of it and tow behind a snowmobile or pull it myself. I can put it together and have it setup in less than a minute and can lift it (with all equipment inside it) right into the back of my truck and head for the next lake. I don't think this thing could beat either one of my shacks in the usages they were meant for. It might stand up to a 100mph wind but I don't think I would go out fishing if there were 100 mph winds so that doesn't mean anything to me.

I feel compelled to comment -- this is an incredible Ice fishing shack and more... we also use as command post for helicopter rescue in remote locations.. a 100MPH wind by helicopter 5 feet over the shack does not affect it -- built for life, with quality by quality hands --as seldom seen these days! email me if you want a pic of helo over the N-Ice Shack. dbitton@airsupport.org

N-ICE SHACK

To all the sceptics out there..An N-ICE SHACK is somthing you have to experience before you say there to exspensive..If you personally knew the man that builds these things, like I do, you would not even bother to post a negitive coment....NOTHING! is done cheap or rushed..NO ONE!!! touches or helps in the building process..TOP!! quality wood, paint, screws, EVERYTHING!! Just think HIGH HIGH end and you have an N-ICE SHACK I love mine!!..If they where $4000 it would still be concidered cheap for all who own one...Some people just need to think before they speak

Hey Tom,
There are those that have and those that don't have. Not everyone can afford a brand new car either. Never mind the sour grapes

Best all round portable;, comfort for the whole family, even room for the port-a-potty if needed for the little one or ?.Experiencing one is the best way to judge! In other words, try one, you will definitely want one. Don,t just be a sour-grapes guy.

Very affordable

This shack is making sales all over the States and Canada and the feedback from consumers is excellent! All are happy they have one!
Material costs do not leave much profit. If you think they are too costly, try building one yourself.

Dan, you don't think the N-ice shack is worth 2500.00? Obviously you haven't tried it! Everyone I know who's seen it and been in it say it's the best they've seen and been in! It's worth every penny!

The first time I went ice fishing I was introduced to the N-ice shack, and then used the basic ice fishing shacks. I have to tell you, the "N-ice Shack" is the cadillac of all ice shacks!! It's warm, comfortable and just makes ice fishing an all around great experience! I love it!!
