- terrible service

I contacted Jeff at Able Boat Transport about a possible boat transfer from Missouri to Florida. Depending on the boat transfer price and could he deliver for the July 4th weekend. Based on his reply of price and the statement he could pick up the boat that same day I bought the boat.
He told me he could have a pick up truck trailer the boat down, (its a 24ft bowrider on its own trailer) or for $200 more have it brought down on a semi. He also wanted the full fee wired first, I told him when the boat is on the trailer i'll send the money. Jeff told me to have the boat at a Marine Max in Missouri by four o'clock that day. The seller of the boat had to take off from work to get the boat there on time.He in fact got there early. So far so good. The seller informed me that the Marine Max manager told him they had been in contact with the driver and the driver was not loading the boat until the next morning. I called Jeff at Able Boat and he told me if the driver gets there by 4:50pm they will load the boat. Well of course they cant load a boat and trailer onto a semi in ten minutes on a Friday just before 5pm.
Jeff now leaves a message on my answering machine asking for more money for a hotel room...HuH whats that got to do with me. Oh and now they wont load the boat until morning. The seller had to come back again the next day to Marine Max and see the boat loaded. Now it really goes down hill. The semi turns out to be a large regular boat trailer and my boat and trailer wont fit on top. Can you say accident waiting to happen. The driver told me that Jeff told him it was a 17ft boat on a trailer that wanted picking up. Jeff told me that he can bring the boat and get the trailer at a later date, I dont think so. So Jeff told me he would get back with me the next day. He didn't I called him multiple times, he eventually answered the phone on the Monday and when I asked him what he is arranging he told me he is already upside down on the deal for paying for a hotel room, nothing to do with me Jeff sorry. He also said that he hasn't received a deposit. I told him when I see the boat on a trailer you'll get paid. Its a 2007 worth a lot more than the transport fee, no fee no unloaded boat. If I sent a deposit knowing you the boat still wouldnt come. I have since seen other reviews. When I mentioned on our last call that the driver said you told him it was 17ft you said you told him it was a 20ft on a 24ft trailer well thats an additional lie, it said on the paperwork 24ft. On our last conversation you said i'm out of the office we have over 300 plus vehicles I'll call you when I get back and see what I can do. I'm still waiting, you cant be trusted. Also the main office line is never answered only a machine. Should have been a warning.

Wow! That's a completely different account than we have! We contracted this load on Friday 6/27 for a last minute pickup. Our driver Scott deadheaded 250 miles and arrived at Marine Max at 3:50pm and they wouldn't load us until Monday AM and would not let our driver in. We paid our driver to sit for the weekend and his hotel. When he went to load, this boat was 29LOA' and turns out the trailer didn't even fit the boat. Trailer was 10' wide with 8'6" boat and no bracing. We opted not to move this boat at all and sent Scott on his way back to FL. At Able Boat Transport, we offer an honest transport for an honest price and didn't appreciate the deceit on this load for rush-rush-rush and wait.

Hey Gigi - I just got back into town. I'm sure you already know the boat arrived safely. I enjoyed meeting Harley and dealing with you. My testimonial will be forth coming and we're going to drive a lot of biz your way. Thanks for everything.
At long last, here is that testimonial I promised--I'm faxing the signed copy. The boat's in great shape and if you ever make it out west you have an open invitation to join me for a sail. Hope you're well. -Rich
Dear Gigi, I just wanted to officially thank you and your organization for the handling of the transport of my boat. I couldn’t have been happier with the level of professionalism, can do spirit, and fun attitude you all brought to the job.
I can only imagine that shipping a 30-foot boat coast to coast is a huge logistical undertaking. You and your crew handled it expertly and brought it safely to homeport within a 5-hour window of your original projection.
Perhaps the most satisfying part of the experience was the fact that you made it a point to keep me informed of the transport throughout the delivery. I never wondered as to the whereabouts or timeline and that is a huge relief to an anxious boat owner.
Kudos to you and your staff and I can honestly say it was a pleasure doing business with you.
Sincerely - Richard D’Alessio

- Beneteau Sailboat Transportation

Gigi and the folks at Able Boat Transport were very easy to work with and very helpful. Jeff assisted me with finding a marina in Merritt Island, FL that would unstep the mast and prepare my boat for transportation (over the Labor Day Weekend). Our Beneteau 41 was transported to Sausalito, CA without delays. Gigi kept me informed as to exactly when our boat would arrive and kept in good contact with the receiving marina. I would definitely recommend and use Able Boat Transport again should I need to move our boat in the future. Mark Warren

The folks at Able Boat were terrific! Gigi's attention to detail and service far exceeded my expectations. I spoke to many transporters and none of them even knew what a Downeast was! From the planning to the pickup to the delivery; everything went according to plan. The trailer seemed like it was made for my boat. The driver Mike took great care of my girl all the way from Punta Gorda up to Portland ME. I would use Able Boat Transport again and will on her way back down to FL in the fall.
